Team News
The Michigan Ice Dogs will be holding pre season skates over the next few week until the season starts (August 19). This weeks camp will be Thursday August 7 at 9pm to 10:30pm cost $10.00 per skater at the Plymouth Cultural Center.

MID Announcements

The Michigan Ice Dogs welcome Tom Graff as our new head coach/ director of player personnel.  Mark Miller is the new President of the MID Junior Club.  Jack MacRobert is now the Vice President and Terry Kucharski will add the responsibilities as General Manager to his role as Team Owner.

Former MID head coach Dan Phelps has accepted the job as head coach of Adrian Bulldogs Club Team.  We wish him the best of luck!                                   6/20

Team News

It won’t be long before the 2008-2009 hockey season is upon us. Good teams are built during the season, good players are built in the off-season. Now is the time to prepare to have a developing and productive season ahead.                         

 The Michigan Ice Dogs Hockey Club would like to extend an invitation to you to participate in our open training camp to be held on August 1-3 at the Plymouth Cultural Center in Plymouth, Michigan. This camp is open to all players from ages 16-20 years of age that wish to compete for a roster spot on our hockey club for the upcoming 2008-2009 season. This will be our primary camp to select our team for next season. Players will be asked to accept roster spots for the 2008-2009 season at this camp. We are looking forward to a competitive tryout camp where players such as you will have the opportunity to showcase their talents.

With this being our first season with the Great Lakes Junior Hockey League, we are extremely pleased with the transition that we made for our self and the direction that our hockey club is heading into for the season. It is our intent as an organization to make our primary goal the development and placement of our players into realistic opportunities for them as student-athletes at higher levels of the sport. We are committed to the success of our players and the team both individually and as a group.

You will find an information regarding our tryout camp on the "Try Out Information" link. The cost of the camp is $125.00 for 4 sessions of ice. All players must sign up with USA Hockey at www.usahockey.com. We ask that you complete the information in full and follow the mailing and fee processing as indicated. An itinerary for the camp activities will be sent to you prior to the start of the camp.

Why Junior Hockey?

In accordance with U.S.A. Hockey, junior hockey is the highest level of competition within the youth hockey advancement ladder. Junior hockey is available to hockey players who are under the age of twenty as of the 31st day in the season of competition. Programs are available to high school age players and graduates who seek to pursue a high level of challenge at the sport. The primary purpose of junior hockey is to develop and prepare players, both on and off the ice, for high levels of the sport which predominantly consist of higher levels of juniors, collegiate, and professional hockey.

Junior hockey has become a natural step of progression for all youth, high school and prep school players to advance in higher levels of hockey. In a survey of college coaches and recruiters, it was revealed that most predominantly scouted leagues by collegiate and professional organizations is junior hockey. Junior hockey provides with the arena to showcase individual and team skills. Stable junior hockey organization provide players with additional opportunities and assistance, and community relations and activities that instill core values of leadership, class, and role model expectations as a maturing young student-athlete. Historically, most players that compete at the collegiate and professional levels have played in the junior hockey ranks.                                                                                                   6/20

Player Development

A development hockey program is no complete without a significant focus on strength and conditioning training. Each player of the Michigan Ice Dogs will be challenged to develop both their mind and body. We have a state of the art facility at Wayne Community Center that offers all the equipment required to develop speed, quickness, agility, balance, core strength/stability, cardiovascular capacity, and flexibility. Muscle strength and power are a critical component of these programs. We also will have programs targeted to develop additional speed, agility, and balance.                                                                                          6/20
